Nasce em 1971 em Heidelberg (Alemanha), vindo para Lisboa em 1975, onde vive atualmente. Frequenta a Escola Artística António Arroio e forma-se na área de Imagem do Curso de Cinema na Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Faz o Mestrado pela FCSH da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, tal como o Doutoramento em 2020, tendo como tema os Ambientes Luminosos.

Trabalha há trinta anos em Imagem na produção de Cinema. Fez direção de fotografia de curtas-metragens, entre as quais ‘A Piscina’ (2004), que co-realiza, com estreia na competição da 61ª Bienal de Veneza.

Já participou como assistente de imagem em mais de três dezenas de longas-metragens e telefilmes e cerca de duas dezenas de curtas-metragens. Durante este período trabalha com realizadores e diretores de fotografia nacionais e internacionais.

Desde 2008 é docente da área de Imagem na Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.

BIOGRAPHY

Ruth Iana Ferreira was born in Heidelberg (Germany) in 1971. In 1975 she moves with her family to Lisbon where she is presently living. She attends the Escola Artística António Arroio, then studies at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, in the Cinematography area of the Cinema Course. Graduates in 1993. She obtains her Master’s degree from the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH of Universidade Nova in Lisbon), and her Doctorate from the same university in 2020, her doctoral thesis being on Light Atmospheres.

She has been working in the Camera department for thirty years. She was Director of Photography in five short-films, among them “A Piscina” (2004), where she was co-director. “A Piscina” premiered at the 61st Biennale di Veneza (official selection). 

As Camera Assistant she has participated in more than thirty feature films and films for television as well as in about two dozen short-films. During this time, she has worked with both, portuguese and international, film directors and directors of photography.

Since 2008 she is a professor, in the the Camera department at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.
